Love Day. That’s how a dear friend refers to Valentine’s Day.
I’ve frequently thought of how lovely it would be if we made every day a day we expressed love to others. That Love Day is within every day. That there wasn’t one commercialized day to remind us to do something special for those in our lives. That it wasn’t just Valentine’s Day when there was a well-planned dinner or hurried stop into the store for roses.
And, as is typical, my thoughts keep connecting pieces that are circling in my head. Please bear with me.
I’d like you to visualize a pie. Cut a slice and set it aside on a plate.
Return to visualizing the pie. Do you think there is one slice less or how delicious the slice you set aside will be?
Some of you may immediately think of scarcity mindset. Scarcity mindset is when the focus is on what you lack – that resources are limited, and there will not be enough to go around. Which often results in feelings of loss, anxiety, and the desire to compete for what is viewed as finite.
I agree that when you serve someone a piece of pie, there is one less slice in the pie dish.
But I’d like to present a different perspective because that’s a tool we – you and I – are using to unearth who we are. To look from a different perspective.
So, how does a pie tie into Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day is a commercial reminder to express our love in tangible ways. However, what would open up in us if we were to change our concept of Valentine’s Day from a single day to Love Day and take the opportunity to express our love – tangible or otherwise – every day?
Now for the pie. A pie can be a reminder of limited supply – like the single day for Valentine’s Day. If someone cuts a slice and eats it, we have less pie. However, what would open up in us if we were to change our approach to the pie and instead view it as an opportunity to share the deliciousness with others?
Let’s take another step. Couldn’t sharing pie with others be a way to express our love?
I don’t know about you, but that makes me smile.
My friend, the beautiful lesson here is that love and pie are not finite. There are unlimited opportunities to express love every day because all we need to do – is bake another pie 💙
