Caution Label

What if life came with a caution label?

This thought came to me as I was sitting at the end of the dock, watching the sun first touch the far shore and light up the land. It was glorious. And, if I had not intentionally taken the time to go down and sit quietly at the end of the dock, with my mug of hot tea, the peace and beauty of that moment would have happened anyway. But, without me to experience it.

You see, I believe every day is a gift. We have today. There is no promise or guarantee about tomorrow. We can do nothing with yesterday but learn from it.

Each of us experiences life in our own unique way. Oftentimes, our subconscious, learned behavior, and long-standing habits often establish how we take on the day. And fear.

How is that for being brutally honest?

I am working each day to evolve, to unearth. I have lived with and in fear. I’ve experienced trauma caused by choosing to remain in established habits and behavior patterns, both my own and others. Even before my circumstances changed, I started to acknowledge I didn’t know who I was. I not only wanted more for my life but needed it in order to experience life. LIFE, in all capitals.

Our behaviors, habits, and the cycle of fear are challenging to change. This is why I feel strongly about finding a professional therapist to help you through self-awareness, discovery, and unearthing. This path is not easy; it does not have caution labels.

We tend to want to remain in our comfort zone, thinking we are safe, even though we may not find who we were meant to become if we stay.

So, back to my question: What if life came with a caution label? Think about this for a moment. We go into a coffee shop and purchase a hot beverage because we want to enjoy it, out of habit or desire. Said hot beverage has the required caution label on it. We can intentionally check that the lid is securely in place and the temperature will not scald us. And then we savor the taste.

I’ve always found it odd that a caution label was needed on a hot beverage container. After all, we ordered a hot beverage, so isn’t it self-explanatory that it would be hot?

That sounds like I am digressing, but I promise I am not.

Life does not come with an instruction manual or a caution label.

To experience the gift of today, you must be willing to understand there is the potential for harm and live anyway. You can check that the metaphorical lid is securely in place and the temperature will not scald you – but then you can enjoy what you’ve chosen to do, to change – to be.

How lovely ☺️

My friend, I wholeheartedly hope you choose to experience and live the gift of today 💙
