Is there a quote that resonates deep into your body and mind?
I’m going to guess your answer is yes. And, I’ll venture out further and say you’ve had more than one quote that has done this to you.
Recently I felt this vibration through my body and into my wounded soul. I was listening to a podcast with Brene Brown and Emmanuel Acho. I hit replay so I could hear Emmanuel’s statement again. Then I grabbed a pad of paper and pen and wrote it down.
Emmanuel Acho said, “So often we try to play the hand we wish we had instead of the hand we were dealt.”
Let’s read that again. “So often we try to play the hand we wish we had instead of the hand we were dealt.”
Huge Ah-Ha moment.
The cards I see are the ones I lived with during my marriage and raising our family. They are the ones I had hoped to hold as roles changed with the typical passage of time. They are the ones I clenched as a spouse cancer caregiver and continue to clutch as I struggle to reconcile my past with my present.
A present I never envisioned myself in.
A present I am only now learning how to live.
I needed to hear this quote today. I needed this supportive wisdom.
My journey toward becoming my authentic self, evolving into Who I Am, is intricate and draining. How do I travel a path I have no experience with or directions to follow? How do I step onto a trail that frightens me?
This ah-ha moment sheds some light on my path. I lift gratitude for what has gotten me to this point in my journey. I acknowledge I cannot change the past nor remain living in it. I will open my hand to release the cards I’ve been trying to play. I’ll dare to pick up the hand I have been dealt.
Another uncomfortable learning curve is ahead.
But, there’s comfort in knowing that’s become familiar territory.
And you? Is there a quote that resounds so loudly it causes you to reevaluate the cards you hold in your hand?
